Partner Profile: Green Gold Forest

Green Gold Forestry is dedicated to conserving the Peruvian Amazon Rainforest by creating a sustainable forest economy on land once destined to be logged. It is committed to protecting the Amazon Rainforest, improving the livelihoods of local communities, as well as promoting economic development in remote rural areas of Peru.

In 2024 GGF partnered with the SDG Impact Lab on a project to develop a framework to map and measure its progress towards the SDGs. This project is specifically targeting SDG8 (Decent work and Economic Growth). SDG Impact Lab Fellows Pepe Weische (Masters in Cognitive and Evolutionary Anthropology) and Rafaela Viana dos Santos (Masters in Public Policy) led this collaborative project. After extensive desk research and online meetings with the Peru-based team, the Fellows conducted nearly three weeks of fieldwork in Peru.

The project deliverables included:

  1. A theory of change (ToC) addressing GGF's shift from timber to non-timber forest products.

  2. A framework to measure the tangible impact of GGF's community projects on SDG 8.

Developed in close collaboration with GGF and local communities, this framework was iteratively improved and reviewed with two different Amazon Rainforest communities. The resulting tool enables GGF to measure tangible impacts on SDG 8, with the potential for future expansion to address additional SDGs and incorporate project-specific functionalities.

In the future, GGF can use this framework to measure tangible impacts to SDG 8 and increase measurable community impact.
